In a blow for the Vancouver Canucks, what was originally described as a Bruised Heel has now been diagnosed as a Broken Left Foot, meaning Canucks Left Winger Daniel Sedin will be out for an extended period of time. He has been placed in a walking cast and is expected to miss the next 4-6 weeks.
Sedin broke the foot Wednesday night after taking a shot off the foot from teammate Alexander Edler (who last season broke teammate Sami Salo's Face with a shot) but played on it after x-rays showed no break. After a re-examination on Friday, Sedin was found to have a break.
Daniel pledges to return in three weeks, but i wouldn't hold my breathe and would expect him to be out at least a month.
Fantasy implications after the jump...
Fantasy Wise: This will be a big test for the Canucks and, more specifically, for Daniel's brother and Centerman Henrik. Having played together since their childhood and having an uncanny knack for finding each other on the ice, it will be interesting to see how Henrik reacts to having a new entity to deal with.
For now, it seems that Alex Burrows will shift to the left side while Steve Bernier will line up to Henrik's right. Burrows' value rises a smidge as he'll now gain some PP time with Henrik and Bernier as well in Daniel's absence.
Bernier's value goes through the roof and if he can keep up his early success this season (1G, 1A, 1 PPG, 10 SOGs) could see himself burying a lot of pucks over the next month. If he's on your Waiver Wire, grab Bernier immediately - especially if you own Daniel.
