In a rare 4 team trade, four player change addresses and a 2nd round pick makes three stops. Here's how it went down:
The Carolina Hurricanes shipped RW Justin Williams to Los Angeles for LW Patrick O'Sullivan and a 2nd round pick. Carolina then sent O'Sullivan and the 2nd rounder north of the border to Edmonton and then welcomed back forward Eric Cole. Edmonton then sent the 2nd round pick to Buffalo for RW Ales Kotalik. Nice.
Fantasy Wise, this is a curious deal indeed. Cole has struggled mightily since leaving Carolina and has only 27 Points in 63 games with the Oilers this season. Heading back to Carolina could make a difference as Cole scored 51 goals the previous two seasons while on the Hurricanes. Cole has dual eligibility in most leagues, so I'd take a flier on him and pick him up. Cole is a high energy player who will easily slide back into the top 6 for the 'Canes.
Justin Williams has struggled with injuries that limited him to 37 games last year and just 32 so far this season. Williams is currently on IR with a broken hand but is a former 30 goal scorer. Edmonton is hoping he'll get healthy and regain his touch, but with Williams expected to miss another week or two, I'd write his name down for the draft next year and leave him out on the waiver wire.
O' Sullivan is a former 2nd round pick who held out to start the season before signing a 3 year deal with the Kings. O'Sullivan has put up 37 points in 62 games with L.A. and should hold the same value for the rest of the season.
Kotalik is a speedy winger with a cannon shot...who has never scored more than 25 goals in a season. with 32 points in 56 games, Kotalik has some upside, but I'm willing to bet there are better RW options on your waiver wire.
